First is Shiraume-cho. The meaning of Japanese is “white plum”. There is a small station here, and there is a single train running. The distant mountain in the photo is Arashiyama.

まず、白梅町です。日本語の意味は「白い梅」です。ここには、小さな駅があって、一両編成の電車が走っています。写真に写っている遠くの山が「嵐山」です。

今日は、白梅町から北へ向かって、左大文字山を見ながら、歩きました。「大」という文字が山に書いてあります。日本語では”Big”という意味です。毎年、8月16の夜に、京都では「五山の送り火」という行事があり、この山にも「大」の形に灯がともります。
