Kyoto Gyoen (Kyoto Imperial Garden ) was the home of the Japanese emperor. Now the Emperor lives in Tokyo. Therefore, the Emperor is open as a place for citizens to relax in Kyoto Gyoen like a park.

The photo shows Shishinden, where the emperor was working. Unlike samurai castles, there are no tall walls or stone walls.

One of the gates of Kyoto Gyoen is a gate called Hamaguri Gomon (Clam Gate). This is also a small gate and does not seem to have much defense.

In 1864, there was a big incident at this small gate. At that time, in order to create a new era, a young Samurai group from Choshu and the young Samurai from Satsuma were active. However, these two groups were not good friends. The Choshu group was inferior, and they went to this gate to ask the Emperor to recover the inferiority. However, Satsuma group suppressed them with force. Young samurai lost their lives. Later, the two groups stopped conflicting. And they started working together to create a new era.
Three years later, the “Taiseihoukan” I introduced last time was realized.
